Please send your printed manuscript double-spaced, in a 12-point font, either Times New Roman or Courier, left-justified only, with pages numbered consecutively. (Don't begin each new chapter with page 1.) A table of contents is helpful with nonfiction projects.
If you prefer to e-mail me your manuscript, please create a single zipped file; or you may mail me a disk or CD. I will have the manuscript printed and ask that you add 5 cents a page to my quoted fee, which covers my printing costs.
If you have selected a service that requires me to mark your
manuscript, please also include a self-addressed, stamped envelope or
box that will accommodate the return of your material.
Please accompany your submission with a check in the proper amount,
made out to Carol Gaskin. I work on manuscripts in the order I receive
them. I will not cash your check until I am ready to begin work on your
project, and I will call or e-mail you at that time to let you know I
have started.
If we haven't spoken or corresponded about your project, I'd also love
to know a little about your background as a writer; any previous
publications or credentials pertinent to your project; any particular
problems or challenges you are facing with your current manuscript; any
particular joys you find in writing; your plans/intentions for the
current project and future projects; and how you found me.

Once I begin work, the turnaround time for a full edit/critique of a
full-length manuscript (70,000 words or more) is generally a week to
ten days, depending on the length and complexity of the project. I
usually have at least two to three manuscripts waiting, and naturally
my schedule varies as new projects arrive. I will give you a more
accurate estimate at the time you are ready to submit.
If you are trying to meet an urgent deadline, I will do my best to
accommodate you. If your manuscript is not quite ready but you would
like me to schedule you immediately, I ask that you send a deposit of
one-half the agreed-upon fee to hold your place in line. The balance is
due when you send the manuscript..
